Most people don’t wake up one day and decide to look into therapy. It’s usually more gradual than that — a few too many nights of lying awake running through worst-case scenarios, a stomach that’s in knots before every meeting, or a sense that you’re bracing for something bad even when nothing bad is happening. By the time someone reaches out, they’ve often been managing it quietly for months, sometimes years.
